No fewer than 200 roofs of houses were on Thursday night blown off in Okpe Isoko, Isoko North Local Government Area of Delta State by a heavy storm.
It was gathered that the storm which wreaked serious destruction also swept away crops in farm lands.
Many of the victims had been rendered homeless and had appealed to the state government to come to their aid.
The President-General Okpe Isoko community, Mr. Alor Okpelogbo, who spoke to DAILY POST said, “The rainstorm destroyed our school buildings, churches, and over 200 houses. We appeal to the state government to come to our aid”.
DAILY POST observes that electricity poles and cables including shops were also destroyed by the heavy storm which lasted for several hours.
But Majority Leader of the state House of Assembly, Mr. Tim Owhefere told DAILY POST that “The rainfall was indeed hurricane-like, indigenes have been divested in the unexpected natural disaster, many houses were destroyed” urging the victims to be calm as government would not abandon them.
